After seven years of growing and developing the retail team, John Michell has moved into a role that will see him develop our retail strategy, develop new areas of expertise and business and work with one or two long-standing clients.
Caroline Main, who joined MAPP in January 2020, and was well known to John previously, has been promoted to Director and will now head up MAPP’s Retail Property Management team.
Caroline has 20 years’ experience in the management of shopping centres, leisure schemes, and mixed-use destinations. She was awarded Fellowship of the RICS in June 2019, and is a Fellowship assessor, a RICS INSPIRE and STEM Ambassador, and judge of the annual SCEPTRE Awards in best practice and Revo ACE Awards in customer experience.
In addition, Lynne Keenan, previously Head of Property Management for CBRE in Scotland, joins the MAPP team in January 2021 and will head up Retail and our wider Property Management business in Scotland.
Ray James, Head of Asset Management, works closely with our Retail Property Management team and will continue to head up Retail Asset Management at MAPP. He has a strong retail bias from his years leasing and developing high street and shopping centre assets throughout the UK with Dalgleish & Company, Lambert Smith Hampton, Prudential, F&C REIT and Capital & Regional. Over the past 10 years, Ray has been instrumental in acquiring, transitioning, managing and selling 20 shopping centre assets.
Ray, Caroline and John seamlessly transitioned the four assets previously owned by Intu last month, including the 1.4m sq ft Eldon Square in Newcastle.
Our retail team has grown from two Surveyors when John joined in 2014 to a team of 12 across 4 offices – London, Bristol, Manchester and Newcastle. We now manage in excess of 9m sq ft of retail and leisure space with over 1,300 retailers and operators and collect £170m pa in rents and service charges.
John Michell said about the Retail business:
‘It was a breath of fresh air to join MAPP seven years ago.
The growth of the retail business over the last few years has been attributable to the firm foundations, leadership and specialisation endemic throughout the business and to the amazing hard work and dedication of the team. I feel privileged to have led and grown the team over the last seven years.
I am delighted to be handing over the leadership of the business to Caroline who has the skills and talent to take MAPP’s retail business to the next level.’
Caroline Main said about her appointment:
‘I am thrilled to be given this exciting opportunity to build upon the success of MAPP Retail. I will continue to be hugely grateful to John for his support as he develops his new consultancy role within the firm. These are exciting times for retail and MAPP.’
Ray James talking about MAPP’s retail business said:
‘The MAPP ethos is to deliver more than clients ask for or expect and the team spirit is second to none. In these challenging times, we are well placed to bring commercial acumen and hands-on first-class management to retail assets that have languished in the past. With the increasing number of distressed retail assets, our teams across property and asset management disciplines are ready to deliver solutions across the retail sector’.
Lynne Keenan about joining MAPP:
‘I am absolutely delighted to be joining MAPP. As a property management specialist, the MAPP model is very appealing to me. Their focus on client care, innovation and the very apparent positive culture that shines through in their people is an excellent fit for me.
I am looking forward to working with John, Caroline, Ray and the wider MAPP team and to being part of their future plans to grow and develop their business. Roll on January 2021!’
