Activating a shopping centre through culture and community

Broad Street Mall

Broad Street Mall sought to connect more meaningfully with Reading’s local music community while supporting mental health awareness and driving retail footfall.

 

The MAPP approach

MAPP launched ‘Broad Street Beats’, a one-day mini music festival featuring local performers and supporting a mental health charity. Retailers participated with themed displays and a curated Spotify playlist, creating a cohesive centre-wide experience.

The impact

The event generated strong public engagement and positive feedback from visitors and performers. It demonstrated the role of retail destinations as community platforms, supporting both commercial performance and social impact.

This project resulted in connected retail, local music and mental health awareness through a centre-wide cultural activation.
